The Vulnerable Model

The Vulnerable Model is an evidence-based adaptive intelligence system and provides a new way to identify and understand the key leading indicators that predict vulnerability.  In Australia, It utilises more than 70 independent data sources (and counting) and dynamically updates when new and additional data is available, providing a critical read on the fast-changing social and economic terrain.

It was launched during Anti-Poverty Week 2020, with an expert panel from Foodbank Australia, Good Shepherd Aust/NZ, Anti-Poverty Week and the Federation of Ethnic Communities' Councils of Australia (FECCA).

The Vulnerable Model was developed in response to the overwhelming challenges faced by many organisations in the social impact sector during recent times.

Our forte lies in knowing what information to seek and being able to extract the insights - and we wanted to lend that breadth of expertise to help the social impact sector.   So that they, in turn, can ensure people get the support they need, when and where they need it.

The ever-changing facts and hidden realities of vulnerability has impacted many communities across the country and these shifts are revealed through the model, through pandemics, natural disasters and impacts on affordability and financial stress.

The model helps to extract the right insights to:

  • provide a measure of vulnerability to establish greater evidence for funding,

  • identify areas where vulnerability is forecasted, but not yet presented, to better inform resource management, responsiveness and funding requirements and

  • enable earlier intervention in communities and potentially reduce the overall negative impacts to people in those communities.
